What's Wrong With My Email?

One of the most common calls we get is about email problems.

Very seldom are there any problems with the server mailboxes. The most common causes of mail failure are:

  • Mailbox Full – it is over quota
  • Incorrect Setup – authentication for the smtp server not turned on
  • Outlook corruption – due to updates or errors on your hard disk
  • Anti-anything software – Anti-virus, anti-spam and personal or third party firewalls create connection problems.
  • Server time outs – Trying to send too large of an attachment and your ISP times out the connection.

Error messages often direct you to contact your server administrator or ISP. Webeddy.com is not your ISP, or server administrator. Webeddy.com is your web host. The various roles involved in your email are

  • Web Host - webeddy.com - we provide a third-party, POP3 mailbox where you can receive and send mail.
     
  • ISP - Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) is a company like Comcast, Qwest, NetZero or any company you pay to get your connection to the internet.
     
  • Server Administrator - This is the person who manages your local computer system. In an office it is your in-house computer guru, at home - this is you.

Anytime you receive an error message with an error message number, you can go to http://Microsoft.com and enter the number into the search to find the problem and resolution. If you are not using a Microsoft product you can go to Google and put it in the Google search and get answers from people other than Microsoft for the same problem. Just paste the error message (or a portion of it) into the google search box and you will see what third party technical support companies have posted regarding the error.
